It’s amazing how different this wine is from our Carneros Chardonnay bottling, despite the fact that they are made identically. They do share the fine balance and rich flavors of the 2005 vintage. But the source of the Napa Valley grapes, the Nord Family’s Trio Vineyard, is characterized by well-drained, sandy loam soil that tends to be low in nitrogen content. The correspondingly low levels of Nitrogen in the grapes after harvest slows down the speed of fermentation. The result is a wine more like Burgundy in style, with flavors of mineral and peach in contrast to the tropical fruit lushness in the Carneros bottling. It’s an ideally balanced Chardonnay, fine and elegant with a classic touch of hazelnut in the aroma.
